A Unique Approach that Honors Your Get Well Wishes
Alternative medicine provides healthcare but uniquely different from conventional or allopathic medicine. Those who practice alternative medicine, such as myself, believe that disease can be successfully prevented while health is restored and optimized without the use of drugs, surgery, or other harmful methodology by using non-invasive analyses and holistic therapeutic modalities.
By using traditional holistic protocols that minimize the risk of harm, alternative medicine helps facilitate the body’s inherent or natural ability to prevent disease, restore wellness, and optimize health. This is done with the combination of nature’s wisdom, with the rigors of modern science, and by creating an environment that is healing both internally and externally.
Health practitioners that practice alternative medicine believe that the underlying cause of what we call “dis-ease” comes from either biological imbalances and/or environmental factors. While the symptoms may be different for all dis-ease, the findings are the same in that they originate from malfunctioning cells. The role of alternative medicine practitioners is to find the root cause of individual challenges and provide guidance to each client for change which enables the body to harness its own natural healing abilities. Alternative medicine is “healthcare for the people” as it honors your get well wishes.
The Foundation of Alternative Medicine
Alternative medicine is healthcare in the truest sense. Those who practice it create a healthy world in which humanity may thrive based on the following beliefs and principles:
The power of nature heals. The body has considerable power to heal itself. The practitioner's role is to simply facilitate and enhance this healing ability in each client by identifying and removing any obstacles standing in the way of recovery.
A person is more than a set of symptoms. Each person is individualistic with his or her own physical, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, social, and spiritual factors. The goal of the practitioner is to treat each of her clients as unique individuals and determine the total health picture based on these factors.
The cause of dis-ease should be identified and treated. Alternative medicine does not attempt to eliminate or merely suppress symptoms, especially since symptoms are part of the body’s natural attempt to heal itself. A practitioner's role is to investigate, identify, and remove the underlying cause of dis-ease.
No harm shall be done in treating the body. Therapeutic methods to calm dis-ease can either support or antagonize the healing power of nature. Holistic practitioners believe those designed to suppress symptoms without removing the underlying causes are considered harmful and should be avoided or minimized. Therapeutic actions for any dis-ease should be complimentary to and synergistic with the healing process.
Practitioners are teachers. To acquire true health, each individual must know how to assume responsibility for his or her own wellness. Alternative medicine doctors educate and encourage each client to accept self-responsibility for his or her health.
Emphasizing dis-ease prevention is important. Illness prevention is best accomplished by lifestyle habits that support wellness. Practitioners affirm this while providing an assessment of risk factors and hereditary susceptibility to disease, as well as making appropriate interventions to prevent illness.
Wellness promotion is the key. Wellness follows the establishment and maintenance of optimum health and balance. Wellness is a state of being healthy, characterized by positive emotion, thought, and action. Practitioners believe wellness is inherent in everyone, regardless of dis-ease, which is why they promote it through supportive counseling. If wellness is recognized and experienced by an individual, it will more quickly heal a given dis-ease than direct treatment of the dis-ease alone.
